“We’re happy with our positioning”

This Friday, whilst making headway at the latitude of Cape Saint Vincent, Giancarlo Pedote and Martin Le Pape are contending with a fairly meaty Portuguese trade wind. “There’s around 25 knots of breeze. It’s sporty. The seas aren’t heavy, which is fortunate because that’s enabling us to continue carrying a lot of sail. We’re all over it: large spinnaker and full main. We’re trying to make headway as fast as possible southwards, which is the favoured option this morning. At one point it was about extending the route a little to the west, but we revised that in the end. We’re trying to get ahead of our playmates Maître CoQ IV and Fortinet – Best Western”, commented the co-skipper of Prysmian Group, which is lying in 7th position today within the Transat Jacques Vabre’s IMOCA fleet, slugging it out with their two rivals who are barely five miles apart. “We’re pretty happy with our positioning. We’ve managed to sail exactly as we wanted to over the past two days, which is encouraging”, added the sailor from the Finistere, who’s delighted to be gradually rediscovering milder temperatures the further south they get. “We’ve now traded our foulies for shorts, which sure feels good”.
